DIY Summer Camps

It's April, and I am looking for summer camps for the kids.  I have read mailers from local dance studios, sports camps, and science organizations, I have looked at the school district website for "summer enrichment" classes, I've reviewed various Parks and Recreation catalogues.

All the good camps seem to happen during the one week we planned to be out of town, most are too expensive, and neither of my kids is up for swim team. Many of my friends with kids are finding themselves in the same situation.

So I've decided I should have my own summer camps here at home.

Basic Landscaping and Gardening Camp: Help design and build a small multi-level garden with a water feature and pea gravel pathway during this exciting and challenging camp.  Develop strength through digging, hauling, and heavy lifting.  Learn to install drip irrigation system.  Learn mathematical equations needed to calculate how much dirt and gravel is needed to complete the job!  Shovels, trowels, and leather gloves will be provided to all participants.  All materials available at The Home Depot.  Participants must be able to lift at least 15 pounds.

Laundry Skills for Beginners:  Learn to locate and read the care labels on various items of clothing - what do all those graphics on the label really mean?  What goes in on hot?  What goes in on cold?  What can go in the dryer, and what needs to dry flat?   Identifying and removing common laundry stains.  How to sort clothing by color and fiber type. Proper safety instruction and techniques for ironing.  How to fold clothing to produce the least wrinkling, sock matching, and a special tutorial on how to fold fitted sheets are only a few of the many skills your child will learn in this class. Camp will run the duration of summer, on Wednesdays from 8 AM - 4 PM.

Basic Home Repairs and Maintenance - Indoor Painting:  Spackle, prime and paint to your heart's content in this week long class.  Learn to patch drywall, and how to apply a plaster finish.  Learn about masking and other prep work, and when to use a brush, when to use a roller, in this unique hand-on opportunity to transform walls and ceilings. Wear old clothes.

Please contact me if your kids would like to participate in any or all of the above camps.

The kids are going to be so happy in September when school starts up again.
